An Invitation To Teach English At An Elite Private Day School In Zibo, Shandong Province, China

The Xiuwen International Academy at Zibo, Shandong Province, Zibo City, PR China, is hiring four experienced native speaking English teachers. The Academy, established in 2005, is an elite private day school. It is managed with a philosophy of education that is a unique blend of the best parts of both eastern and western education. International teachers are both welcomed and made comfortable at our school.

The Academy currently serves grades 1, 2, 3 &4 students in ages 6-9 years. Each year thereafter new first grade students will be enrolled with the former students advancing in grades until eventually the Academy serves students 1-5 (Elementary school).

Zibo is a medium sized Chinese city in Shandong Province. Shandong Province is famous for being the home of Confucious, China’s great social philosopher. Zibo is about an hour drive from the provincial capital city of Ji’nan, 2 hours drive to the seacoast city of Qingdao (home of the famous Tsingtao Brewery), and 5 hours drive from Beijing.

Dr. Xiuwen Wang is the head of the school. Dr. Wang lived in America for over 15 years and understands both western and eastern cultures, a necessity for pleasant working and living conditions in China. The staff is friendly and dedicated to making the life of international teachers as pleasant as possible.

The School’s Employment Requirements:

The Academy wants dedicated people who have a passion for teaching young children, are open minded, outgoing, have experience teaching, and good teaching skills. Applicants must have a college degree. TEFL/TESL certified teachers are preferred, but other certifications will be considered. The Academy prefers native speaking English teachers from the United States of America, United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia.

What the Academy Offers:

• A monthly salary of 5,000 Yuan .

• Actual contact teaching hours per week will not exceed 20 hours. In addition to weekday English classes for the students enrolled at the Academy, there will be some evening and weekend English classes for private students of all ages.

• A shared furnished apartment with private bedroom. Water and electricity expenses will be shared between the Academy and the international teachers. Each apartment will have a telephone (foreign teachers pay for its use).

• Three meals per day during the work week.

• Each international teacher will be assigned an office workspace with a computer and free internet access.

• International teachers may choose to take advantage of Chinese language and martial arts lessons at no cost.

• International teachers will receive the same medical coverage as the Chinese teachers. In addition, it is advisable for foreign teachers to have their own medical insurance. International teachers should contact their local health office for immunization requirements before coming to China.

• On completion of a one-year employment contract, the expense of a roundtrip economy airline ticket (NTE USD $1,400 roundtrip, $700 one-way) from the country of departure will be reimbursed. If a foreign teacher teaches for two academic years, they will be reimbursed for two roundtrip economy airline tickets.

• On completion of a one-year employment contract, international teachers will receive an end-of-contract bonus equivalent to one month’s salary.

International teachers will be expected to arrive in China on August 25th, 2007. A representative of the school will meet each international teacher at Beijing International Airport in Beijing and will transport them to the Academy in Zibo.
